Nicholas, our big sweet Newfie, turned 8 on May 15, 2023. He was limping a bit on Friday and Saturday and then on Sunday, May 28 a tumor the size of an egg appeared on his leg. Since other standard treatments were ruled out we chose amputation. That was yesterday, and he seems to be doing well. Here’s a picture of the birthday boy, and of him one day post op.
I’m adding other pictures of him 4 days post op in his 3xl tee shirt.
Oh you handsome boy! I’m so hoppy you are doing well and looking great. Of course, you’re a Newf so we all knew you would 😉
Nice to see you started a blog, which will absolutely help others in their journey. THANK YOU!
Day 5 I’m detailing progress on the forum for now but this morning was so great..He’s moving around where he wants to go on his own, tail wagging.
I can not emphasis enough how much I am in love with Nicholas, such a handsome boy! look forward to seeing updates on his recovery 🙂
Thank you for sharing. He is so precious! We had an aggressive tumor debulked three weeks ago and it is already growing back. Our 10 yo girl is rather large and our biggest concern is her weight getting around as a possible tripawd.
I understand the weight concern for your dear girl. We just didn’t have a choice except for a life with heavy drugs which didn’t kill the pain anyway or euthanasia. His bone was too far gone for limb-sparing and he had a fracture so no radiation. Also we were very concerned about him breaking the bad leg, apparently terribly painful because we live on a farm with gopher holes. We’re only one week out. He tires quickly but seems to be figuring out how to get around very well. Kind of an analytical guy and very patient..
